About Daily Exception

Daily Exception is a voice in America’s evolving discussion on national security. At a time when our government is running record deficits, defense cuts are inevitable. Our security environment, however, is not getting safer. Terror groups like Al Qaeda may be degraded, but the threat from non-state actors (whether terrorists or organized crime) remains. More significantly, China’s profound rise challenges our very presence in the Asia, the focus of global manufacturing, trade and energy resources. To maintain our security and preserve our position as a superpower, we must choose our battles, focus our resources and evolve our security alliances. Daily Exception seeks to explore these themes.

Daily Exception is authored by Manish Thakur, a New York-based investor in the defense sector, and independent Democrat. I am Managing Partner in Hudson Fairfax Group (www.hudsonfairfax.com), an investment & strategic advisory boutique specializing in defense, homeland security and space. Being a “National Security Democrat” may seem an odd combination, but this is too important a topic to be the preserve of only one party. So in the tradition of FDR, JFK and LBJ, I advocate for a strong and sustainable national security strategy while keeping my faith in a fiscally responsible and socially liberal society.
